Smashing Sunday @ Pestle & Mortar

Sunday barbecues are a rare occasion nowadays. Everyone's always s busy doing their thing, so when point8cam said that the boys from Pestle & Mortar are doing a Sunday bbq I didn't hesitate at all! There were plenty of hotdogs to go around, not to mention drinks ;)

But the best part about sunday chill-out sessions like these? are the chance to hangout with friends or in my case, new acquaintances. Wonderful people, they were, as a collective design group designing t-shirts combining culture and style into clothing. Their designs? based on the Malaysian culture. You'll see maggi goreng telur mata, ice-cream potong and much more on their tees which makes it much more interesting and personalized compared to those international brands you usually purchase from.

This was a video point8cam made earlier this year when he went to visit Pestle & Mortar's showroom in Damansara:

Enjoying them Tesco hotdogs ar point8cam?  ;P

I like my weeners with good ol' mustard hahaah  ;P

Beautiful view from the top, perfect for my Angry Birds training on point8cam's phone

Check out their quirky cool photo tees here - clickity click

I guess there will be more Smashing Sundays (click the link to read their event post) in the future so just keep yourself in the loop through their:

Timberland Spring/Summer 2011 fashion show

All photos were taken by Point8cam

About two weeks ago I was invited to attend Timberland's Spring/Summer 2011 collection showcase at Midvalley middle concourse (I just made that sound like middle-earth -_- ). I'm sure you lot already know that Timberland focuses on weather resistant and down-to-earth clothing and this time it's no different as Timberland continues their heritage of combining style and latest patented technologies to combat wet and erratic weather conditions. Some of you might say that it's pricey, but with the technology and practicality of the clothing in our weather, I must say that it's considered to be a good investment.

outfit deets:

Shirt Top: Zara
High-waisted jeans: Topshop
Nude heels: Vincci
Bag: Chanel Cruise S/S2011
Glasses: RayBan Wayfarers

with my awesome possum official photographer and videographer, point8cam.

Timberland was known since 1973, after their introduction to the infamous waterproof leather boots and as years passed by, they have also ventured into designing up-to-date casual clothing for both men and women. Who doesn't know the yellow boots? I'm sure some of us grew up through that era, where everyone was into the hip-hop scene and we saw the likes of Jay-Z and Beyonce donning the boots in the 'Bonnie & Clyde' music video.

This summer, Timberland's ready-to-wear collection consists of these themes - Make Waves, Ride On, Canvas Reinvented and Repel Wet which are suitable for both outdoor adventures or just as daily casual wear.

Make Waves

Nautical Inspired range for the aspiring sailors. They are lightweight, waterproof and easily packed for your boating adventures. The iconic boat shoes have been revamped with a twist, and constructed with premium materials to defy natural weather elements. It repels liquid while providing maximum comfort and breathability. It also has the GSR Gripstick rubber features which provides maximum surface contact and traction on wet surfaces so you can walk on water! hehe just kidding. It minimizes your chance to slip on slippery surfaces.

Ride On

Timberland now introduces a collection of bike-friendly gear for biking enthusiasts with their footwear feature of the Pedal Flex technology which ensures riders to have technical performance and comfort, on and off the bike so you attain the exhilaration of biking while at the same time save mother nature by reducing your carbon footprint.

Canvas Reinvented

For those outdoor adventure seekers, Timberland's clothing material are known for being tough, lightweight and breathable and what more could be appropriate than canvas? This season, their canvas are much tougher and water resistant with the Bionic Canvas and ion-mask technology by P2i in their collection. This means that it will be resistant to dirt and stains, and the garment lasts longer so you can use it outdoors in the most extreme weather.

Repel Wet

The same Bionic Canvas and ion-mask technology by P2i have been applied to keep you dry, while providing you with breathability and durability. The S-Cafe Outwear is the brand's astounding combination of outdoor performance with cutting-edge innovation by using recycled coffee grounds and plastic bottles for their products.

Even met Julie (Woon) who got caught in the traffic but managed to catch up a little with her ;)

Skipped dinner with Julie and his manager to have dinner with Gigi Besi, Gerald. He finally took off his jaw brace! (he passed out and fell on his jaw so he was wired shut for almost 8 weeks hahaha)

More posts coming up! I'm finally getting the modjo again!  ;)

Movin' stills

There will be a point in a relationship where doubts start to creep in and you wonder, "will this ever work?". You tend to look in the eyes of your partner and you search for that glimmer of hope, or at least for him to realize that you just need assurance, tell you that he wants to be with you. But sometimes, that's not the case. Your mind constantly works like a clock, and it gets to your nerves when you don't get what you were expecting, and you start to feel a little distance wedging itself in between both of you.

But sometimes, all you need is to just stop, and go back to where it all began.

We took a drive, and spent a little time with each other, armed with a camera and forgot about the world, back at the place where we first met, and had dinner at the place where we had our first heart to heart conversation, getting to know each other and talked about the world.

I can say that it was one of the best dates ever, and I know I didn't really want to talk about my personal life on my blog anymore, but sometimes we need constant reminders and this is one of those moments in life which I'll remember when I look back. I'm glad I have someone who is always alert and won't stop chasing, cause in a relationship, when you get to the stage where you're comfortable, you forget the chase. And that's when you start taking each other for granted. I'm not quoting from "Strangers, again" cause I'm not a stranger to all these, and I'm telling you stories from my point of view cause we've all been through it, if not will go through it.

Don't stop chasing the one you love, even when you have her already. Then, you won't go wrong.

It's the weekends again, pray that you're breathing still

Morning peeps, it's Saturday again. A brand new day, as you open your eyes and the first thing you should do is thank God and be grateful that you get to breathe and live another day cause you wouldn't know, how long would it last. So as long as it does, carpe diem! Seize the day!

My weekends are usually laid-back, with just meeting up a couple of friends with point8cam, or going out with my family, doing things we love, bonding through simple, carefree activities. Sometimes, with weathers like these, I wish I was at the beach, soaking up the sun and just have a sip of ice cold chocolate milk while feeling the breeze on my skin.

However, most times, I'll be at home, or around town. Life ain't a beach everyday ay?

Sabtuday Skate with point8cam and Hariz.

so Hariz organized a mini skate comp recently, called Grind Baru 2 and since he's an old friend of ours, we've decided to drop by, give support and record the whole thing. OK, maybe more like point8cam record the whole thing. I'm just happy being there seeing him catch up with his friends and goof around doing what he loves  =)

Now that, is satisfaction.

Check out the video point8cam produced regarding the Grind Baru 2:

On another note, our dear blogger friend, Ami, needs our prayers, love and support as she is battling with Leukemia. Each prayer is a blessing and I hope she stays strong and fight her way through, as she has always been  =)

Speaking of which, there is this fund-raising thing hosted by Sabah Tea called E-JAM. Basically what they do is they organize a fund-raising event (following the Australia's Morning Tea Party concept) for everyone to host their own tea party to raise funds in support of NCSM (National Cancer Society Malaysia) and BCWA's (Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia). What you need to do, if you're interested in contributing, is:

Attend a JAM
Buy JAM merchandise and/or make a donation during the JAM to raise funds for NCSM & BCWA’s cause

Host a JAM
Sell JAM merchandise and/or collect donations at your event/party to raise funds for NCSM & BCWA’s cause

If you're interested to find out more about the event, click on the poster below:

or the link to their website HERE

Point8cam's wedding video

If you're expecting to see his wedding video, with him as the groom? Sorry. But if you're here to see a wedding video he shot, yes, you're at the right blog hahaha

point8cam are one of those people who rarely showcases his work and most of his videos online are the fun stuff. I keep telling him to put up a site where clients can refer to, but I guess he has his own plans in his pocket and I trust this guy with ideas and creativity. But when he does show his work, it never falls short from amazing. I know sometimes I can be hard on him, criticizing and giving my two cents, he's still one of the best around, no doubt and even when the rest tries to imitate what he does (oh yes, I've seen em carbon copies), it still lacks something.

As I've said before, and I will say it again:

Gears only facilitates your storytelling, but when gears are bigger than the ideas, I ain't buyin.

Here's just to show one of his latest works, an akad nikah video for a couple he shot recently, showcased at the reception dinner.

Akad Nikah of Shidee & Sherry from point8cam on Vimeo.

All I have to say is I've nothing but to feel proud to know he's growing fast and I hope he becomes a force to be reckoned with   =)

Zlwin Magic Galaxy Ace Contest

Hello peeps, as my facebook news feed is filled with bloggers alike, I kept seeing this video link being distributed out on my homepage so I have decided to check it out. It's actually a video made by my fellow blogger, Bryanlyt featuring a friend, Zlwin Chew, doing his magic tricks using the Samsung Galaxy Ace phone. Pretty neat stuff!

They were actually promoting this Samsung Galaxy Ace phone, which can be won by entering the contests on their Samsung Univez facebook page and there's a few phones to give away so your chances of getting one is pretty high. So I encourage you, my readers, to just try it out, spare a few minutes watching the video and answer the questions and who knows, you might win this brand-new phone.

Do not that the contest will end on the 30th of April 2011 so send in your entries before, don't procrastinate like me -_-"

Go to these links below, and try your luck in any of the videos. The contest mechanics are explained at the video description:

After you've filled in the criteria, cup your hands like these and pray a Galaxy Ace will drop into it ^.^

Good luck!

D.I.Y - feathered hair clips

If you've been following my tweets, or maybe read my previous posts, you'd know how I'm into really free-spirited, gypsy, desert lovin', coachella look and obviously, Rumi Neely is one of my idols. But it's so hard to emulate such style especially when you're Asian, and in Malaysia cause some of the things you wear will prompt a stigma from people to say that you're a Sungei Wang chick. And yes, a Sungei Wang chick is not something most people would want to be associated with.

Back to the whole main story, I've been into these feathered hair clip extensions for a while now but I could just never find them around Kuala Lumpur. I know there are places selling feather earrings, necklaces and headband but never a hair extension. So I decided to make one, only to then be put on a halt, cause I didn't know where to find pretty feathers. That project was on hiatus until Aljer mentioned that I could get feathers somewhere inside Sungei Wang and point8cam seriously brought me there, like finally so that I could just get some! Such a sweetheart, he is.

I figured that I might as well start making my own stuff, since it's hard to find some of the things I kinda want except to order them from halfway across the globe which is just insane considering the shipping cost that would be more expensive than the item itself. So I guess you'll be seeing more D.I.Ys on this blog in the coming future and as I get better, I will be giving them out to my readers, friends or custom some for special people. Now, I've got my sources (friends) and my driving force (point8cam) who pushes me to do these things, especially point8cam cause he's apparently happy to see me get crafty since he loves making things as well. I know when I first got together with him, he was sawing off wood to make somethingi'mnotsurewhat hahaha

So here are just pictures, the first D.I.Y which needs tons of improvement still, and more better material and daymn, the materials ARE NOT CHEAP! I spent almost a hundred for just these! Insanity! But oh well. I might order more feathers from eBay if this turns out good =)

It kinda looks stiff even when I've sliced the cord ends into half so I'm on a mission to find a better material to work with and make them look really, really sleek and earthy and add beads and other earthy elements to it so it'll look pretty professionally done. Maybe all I need is just time to experiment =P

so this was when it was freshly made:

And this was a day after, when the cord has soften up a little and flowed well with my hair

ahhh nevermind, will keep you guys updated when I've figured how to make a better one  ;)

STYLO Grand Prix Finale Gala

I know it's been a week since STYLO Grand Prix was over, but still it doesn't mean that I can't blog about it. Been crazy busy as usual with uni stuff and I'm finally here, on a Sunday morning having my  apple juice with straggly hair blogging about a prestigious and glamorous event hahaha

I arrived just on time, no thanks to the usual Friday after work crawl heading to point8cam's to pick him up and head off to Scarlet Theatre @ Chin Woo Stadium in KL (more car crawling action) and I was so happy to be able to bring a plus one, since I can't camwhore anymore (yes, I've lost the skill to actually take self photos) and he takes really really nice photos of myself and other things.

All photos are by Point8cam

The night consists of award winner announcement by Mercedes-Benz and also a show by renowned international designer, Ara Jo (who has designed for the likes of Lady Gaga, to name one) and also other designers who participated in the whole week's fashion show.

For starters, the audience had the privilege to see the World's Most Expensive purse, designed by Mouawad, a Dubai-based jewelry design house called '1001 Nights Diamond Purse' paraded across the catwalk runway by supermodel Angie Ng. Valued at a whopping $3.8million, this 381.92 carat purse is encrusted with more than 4,517 diamonds (105 yellow, 56 pink and 4,356 colorless). The purse itself was handcrafted from an 18 carat gold and took 10 artisans over the span of 1100 hours to complete it. If you didn't know already, these are the people that created the famous Victoria's Secret's World's Most Expensive Bra, the Very Sexy Fantasy Bra.

We took a breather while they had a break in between the shows and the after party, munched on the buffet spread and free flow and took pictures outside. There was a nice patio overlooking an olympic pool and a ton of beautiful and fashionable people around. Oh, the theme for the night was Moulin Rouge or Burlesque so I was in a frantic mode looking for something to wear and oh my God, I have things that fits the theme, but I don't think it was decent enough to be worn out of my bedroom hahaha so I ended up with a laced skirt I bought in Zurich and a custom fitted corset made for my nyonya kebaya actually hahaha ok lah, I was rushing anyways.

Corset: Custom
Skirt: H&M
Shoes: Vincci
Bag: Dior

With the sexy and leggy Shermaine Wong, the one who invited me to STYLO  =)

And below, are the winners for Emerging Designer of 2011 where their designs were paper-based and 1st Prize winner was Lorenzo Peh (far right). His winning factor was for the fact that he created the paper himself, ala papyrus making method and it wow-ed the judges with a wearable design and also for creating his own material out of paper, tissue rolls and what not.

And below, are the F/W collection 2011 by Ara Jo, a London-based designer who has designed for the likes of Lady Gaga and Jamelia and oh my goodness! I loved how mythical and structured her designs were. The black and white catsuit was my favourite. It was a mixture of goth meets beautiful woodland creatures from Venus or something (I'm not making sense but whatever).

Winner of Designer of the Year 2011, Jendela KL received by Faisol Abdullah.

And a show of all the designer participants' garments based on the theme of Moulin Rouge/ Burlesque paraded by Ford Models finalist 2011.

Other winners of the Mercedes-Benz STYLO 2011 Awards are:

Mercedes-Benz STYLO Emerging Designer of the Year 2011
Lorenzo Peh

Mercedes-Benz STYLO Designer of the Year 2011
Faisol Abdullah (Jendela KL)

Mercedes-Benz STYLO Model of the Year 2011
Carla Soong

Mercedes-Benz STYLO Supermodel Mentor Award
Cilla Foong

Mercedes-Benz STYLO Industry Award
C.Y Cheong (Padini Holdings Berhad)

Mercedes-Benz STYLO Best Showcase Award
Jovian Mandagie

Here are just random photos I took with my GF-1 of the classy decor in the waiting hall:

and finally a photo with my lovely partner and photographer/videographer/partner-in-crime: point8cam
